A transparent recommendation engine ("Because you loved Inception…") picks what to start next from your own ratings — no AI black box — and a social layer matches friends by taste rather than follower counts. Consu is free with no ads; a single one-time purchase (about €5.99) unlocks Pro. It is built by one independent developer in Ireland.

The story
Consu started as a personal fix: one app for a watchlist, one for games, a reading tracker, a music log, and a notes file gluing it together. Karl, a solo developer in Ireland, built Consu to put all of it in one place — then kept going: honest backlog maths ("~263h to clear"), recommendations that explain themselves, and a social layer where profiles match on taste. Every screen is designed, not generated; the mascot is an octopus because it's the only creature with enough arms to hold your whole backlog.
What makes it different
- All five media in one app — most competitors cover one or two categories.
- Transparent recommendations — every pick carries its reason ("Because you loved…"); computed from the user's own ratings, no AI hype.
- A social graph built on taste — profiles match by a taste-similarity score, with Public / Friends / Private control.
- Fair pricing — one-time Pro unlock instead of a subscription; free tier with no ads.
- Respectful of data — no ad tracking, opt-out analytics, full CSV export, in-app account deletion.
